In this article, you will get all information regarding ‘Torture porn’: Lily-Rose Depp filmed scenes of ‘extreme’ sexual violence for new HBO show, report says

In Lily-Rose Depp’s bid to prove she’s not just the “Nepo Baby” daughter of Johnny Depp, but a superstar in her own right, the 23-year-old aspiring actor happily signed on to play a troubled pop star in “The Idol,” HBO’s upcoming series that promises to be the “darker, crazier and more risqué version” of the network’s smash hit “Euphoria.”

Now, Depp is having to issue a statement to deflect a Rolling Stone investigation, which described how “The Idol” became a toxic and troubled production, with the actor expected to film scenes that were later rewritten to be gratuitous, misogynist and extremely violent.

“Never have I felt more supported or respected in a creative space, my input and opinions more valued,” Depp said in her statement, BuzzFeed News reported and Variety reported.

Rolling Stone’s investigation said the scenes showed her character, Jocelyn, suffering degrading, violent treatment by her lover, played by singer Abel “The Weeknd” Tesfaye. The Weeknd, a co-creator of “The Idol,” plays the slimy owner of a Los Angeles night club who’s also leader of a NXIVM-like cult.

In one scene that was rewritten — after the series’ female director, Amy Seimetz, mysteriously exited the production last spring — Depp’s character was hit in the face by The Weeknd and then asked to be beaten more, which gave his character an erection, Rolling Stone said.

At one point, it also was suggested that Depp’s character should be forced to carry an egg in her vagina, Rolling Stone said. If the egg broke, she’d be punished by The Weeknd’s character refusing to “rape” her, unless she begged him to. Rolling Stone said this scene wasn’t shot.

“It was like any rape fantasy that any toxic man would have in the show — and then the woman comes back for more because it makes her music better,” one member of the production told Rolling Stone. The rewrites were ordered by Sam Levinson, the in-demand creator of “Euphoria,” after he took over as director. For its investigation, Rolling Stone interviewed 13 members of the show’s cast and crew.

In one sign of trouble on the set, HBO has yet to give an update on when “The Idol” will debut, Rolling Stone said. The network ordered the erotic drama back in November 2021, and production began late that year, with Seimetz, known for “The Girlfriend Experience,” hired to direct. But filming went on hiatus in April 2022 and Seimetz left the show, with about 80% of the six-episode series finished.

HBO responded to news about the production being delayed by confirming that “The Idol” had to undergo a major creative overhaul and would be changing up its cast and crew, Rolling Stone reported. HBO offered little explanation for the shakeup, though reports circulated that The Weeknd, who is a co-creator, believed the show was heading too much into a “female perspective.”

Cast and crew members told Rolling Stone that the shakeup meant the nearly finished $54-75 million project was scrapped. With Seimetz out as director, and Levinson taking over, the show’s overarching message was “weakened,” Rolling Stone said. For all the rewrites and reshoots, Levinson dialed up “the disturbing sexual content and nudity to match — and even surpass — that of his most successful show, ‘Euphoria.’”

“What I signed up for was a dark satire of fame and the fame model in the 21st century,” one production member told Rolling Stone. “The things that we subject our talent and stars to, the forces that put people in the spotlight and how that can be manipulated in the post-Trump world.” However, the production member said, the series “went from satire to the thing it was satirizing.”

In her statement, Depp also insisted that Levinson was “the best director” she’s ever worked with. She said, “Working with Sam is a true collaboration in every way — it matters to him, more than anything, not only what his actors think about the work, but how we feel performing it. He hires people whose work he esteems and has always created an environment in which I felt seen, heard, and appreciated.”

HBO also defended the show and its creators, saying that the early production “did not meet” its standards.

“The creators and producers of ‘The Idol’ have been working hard to create one of HBO’s most exciting and provocative original programs,” HBO said in a statement to BuzzFeed News. HBO also said the creative team was “committed to creating a safe, collaborative, and mutually respectful working environment.”

Meanwhile, The Weeknd hit back at Rolling Stone’s report by posting a clip from the series to Instagram, Variety said. The clip showed a scene in which a character played by Dan Levy pitches the idea of Depp’s character doing a photo shoot for the cover of Rolling Stone. The Weeknd’s character says, “Rolling Stone? Aren’t they a little irrelevant?” The Weeknd tagged Rolling Stone and captioned the post, “Did we upset you?”
