Schuylerville teen killed in head-on crash in Niskayuna Saturday

NISKAYUNA – Authorities have confirmed that a 16-year-old Schuylerville boy died Saturday in a head-on crash in Niskayuna.

Police say Nicholas Giovannone was not wearing a seat belt while driving on Aqueduct Road at about 4 p.m. Saturday. His vehicle, a 1991 Honda, crossed over the center lane and hit another vehicle head-on.

Police say Giovannone’s speed was also a factor in the accident, although they have not determined the exact speed at the time of the crash.

Giovannone’s car hit a 2002 Ford Taurus driven by Joseph Mormon-Tibbs, 25, of Schenectady.

Mormon-Tibbs was airlifted to Albany Medical Center with serious injuries.
