A palm tree fire in a Woodcrest neighborhood prompted authorities to evacuate residents as a precaution Saturday afternoon, before announcing that the fire’s progress was halted.
The blaze began around noon in the 15000 block of Cartwright Drive and was burning about 1.5 acres, according to the Riverside County Fire Department. Residences south of John F. Kennedy Drive, north of Van Buren Boulevard, east of Porter Avenue and west of Dauchy Avenue were being evacuated Saturday afternoon.

No injuries or structure damages were reported, said Tawny Castro, a spokesperson for Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department. The announcement that the fire’s progress was stopped came at 2:24 p.m.
