Man fatally shot at Long Beach apartment complex

A man died after he was shot Friday at an apartment complex in Long Beach.

The shooting occurred before 3:30 p.m. at the complex in the 3100 Block of West Spring Street, according to police. The man was found with a gunshot wound to the upper body.

He was taken to a hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the victim was withheld pending notification of family.

Residents were advised to evacuate or shelter in place while officers and a SWAT team searched the area for several hours. The suspected shooter eventually surrendered themselves to authorities just before 7 p.m., police said.
