Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene said that being a Christian nationalist “is nothing to be ashamed of” and appeared to attack critics during her remarks at an event in Texas.

Greene, a Republican representing Georgia’s 14th congressional district, defended her earlier statements about being a Christian nationalist at a CPAC event in Dallas on Friday.

In July, Greene said at a Turning Point USA event that the Republican Party should be Christian nationalists, and she defended those statements in Dallas when addressing allegations that she had made statements similar to those of Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler.

“I take this very seriously,” Greene said. “Since becoming a member of Congress, I am the most attacked member of Congress in the history of the United States and appalled by this.”

She said that she and her family were also “fed up” with her treatment and that the media lied about her.

“But when I said I’m a Christian nationalist, I don’t have to be ashamed because most Americans are,” she said.

“We are proud of our faith and we love our country. And that will make America great again. Based on biblical principles, is there anything wrong with loving God and loving others? No,” Greene said.

Greene further suggested that the Republican Party should embrace these principles.

“So, I’m not backing down from these comments, but I do condemn the lying media for what they said,” she said.

During a Turning Point USA Student Action Summit in Florida last month, Greene was asked what the Republican Party’s “primary focus” would be for the 2022 election.

Greene acknowledged it was a “difficult question” but said, “We have to be the party of nationalism. And I’m a Christian. I proudly say that we should be Christian nationalists.”

“And if Republicans learn to represent most of the people who vote for them, then we’re going to be the party that keeps growing without having to chase specific identities or chase specific segments of people,” she said.

news week has reached out to Rep. Greene’s office for comment.

Greene has become a high-profile national figure since her election to the House of Representatives in 2020 and has made a number of controversial statements. She is also a strong supporter of former President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, she said the FBI “needs to be cleaned up” after leaking a training document purportedly from the agency that listed a number of groups and their logos that the document said indicated “militia violent extremism.”

These logos included the Betsy Ross flag, the Gadsen flag, and the Gonzales battle flag. news week could not verify the document.

“So this is shocking and completely untrue,” Greene said in a webcast. “The FBI needs to be purged of people who have this and think these, these logos are examples of violent extremism because they are not.”
