Thousands of people in Argyll and Bute are being given Christmas gift cards worth a total of almost £800,000.

A total of 6,658 Scotland Loves Local Gift Cards are being sent to people who receive Council Tax Reduction.

The cards, each worth £120, can be spent at over 200 businesses across the area and are being funded by a £1.48m Covid economic recovery funding package awarded to the council by the Scottish Government.

Eligible households need to look out for envelopes branded Love Local love Argyll and Bute arriving at the end of this month or in early December.

This letter will confirm you are eligible for the gift card and includes a unique code should be kept letter safe.

A second letter, issued shortly afterwards, will include the gift card.

Council leader Robin Currie said: “We know that many residents across Argyll and Bute are facing huge pressures with the cost of living crisis.

“The gift card aims to provide residents with extra spending, particularly in the run up to Christmas.

It also provides a welcome boost to local businesses and helps to support jobs across the area. Please look out for the envelope and keep it safe to activate your gift card when it arrives.”

Once activated, the gift card can be used in any of the participating businesses.
